2007 Hired Hand Award

Troy Smallman was presented with the 2007 Hired Hand Award by Agriculture Minister Neil LeClair, during the annual Farmer's Award Banquet in O'Leary. Mr. Smallman has worked at W.P. Griffin Inc. in Elmsdale for close to 20 years. Troy is recognized by farmers in West Prince as a hard worker and a leader in farm innovation and sustainable farm practices.

World Potato Congress

World Potato Congress has appointed John Griffin to its board. Griffin, from Montrose, Prince Edward Island, Canada, is president and general manager of W.P. Griffin, a family potato farming/packaging business. Shortly after taking over the family business, Griffin and his brother Peter iniated a development and expansion program that led to their operation being recognized as one of the most modern and diversified in Canada. Griffin also serves on the board of the PEI Feredation of Agriculture as the chair of On-Farm Food Safety committee. He has served as a PEI governor for the Canadian Unity Council, president of the Rotary Club of Summerside, and as president of the PEI Grain Elevators Corp.

W.P. Griffin Launches New Improved Products

At the Sobeys Atlantic Produce Tradeshow 2007 this week W.P. Griffin Inc. launched their new improved "Spice it Up" Oven/BBQ/Skillet ready products. This product can be found in 3 different potato varieties (Russet, Red & Yellow Flesh) depending on the season. These products are targeted at the quick and healthy meal market. Their attractive packaging displays the finished meal while protecting the produce from the artificial lighting (which can cause greening).
