PEI Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Minister's Dedication to Agriculture Award

Friday January 27, 2017

The PEI Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Minister's Dedication to Agriculture Award for 2016 is presented to Mr. Blair Gallant. Mr. Gallant has been nominated by his current employer W.P. Griffin Inc. of Elmsdale. In our industry, we have difficulty in retaining skilled employees with the ability to manage our farm as we would. To have an individual as skilled, dedicated and loyal as Blair is an asset to our farm and industry. During his 40 consecutive years of employment, he has established an effective ability to place himself in everyone's shoes which in turn has created very loyal employees. He is accommodating wherever possible with his staff. He excels at delegating tasks to the employees best equipped to handle them. He is always flexible and confident as the employees look to him for guidance, inspiration and direction. He always accepts responsibility for his choices which earns respect from both staff and management. Blair is a very appreciated and valuable asset to our farm, team and our day to day operation. To say, Blair is outstanding in his field is an understatement. It is with great pleasure to present Mr. Blair Gallant with PEI Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Minister's Dedication to Agriculture Award, which is presented by the Honorable Allan McIsaac.

Farm Day in the City

Sunday October 2, 2016

Close to 15,000 people crowded into downtown Charlottetown for Farm Day in the City on Sunday. The festival was marking its ninth year. Queen Street was closed from Grafton to King, and the festival also stretched up Victoria Row and around Confederation Centre. It featured live music, cooking demonstrations, face painting and, of course, dozens of farmers selling their produce. The P.E.I. Potato Board was the title sponsor for this year's event. It sold french fries for $2.00, with all the proceeds going to Family Violence and Prevention Services and P.E.I. 4-H. John Griffin and Garth Smallman from W.P. Griffin's baked and served approximately 700 baked potatoes.
